Ladysmith High School (LHS) and the Ladysmith International Student Program (LISP) have a wide range of activities ready for student participation. These include varsity athletics, clubs, intramural sports, weight lifting, cross-country skiing, swimming, tennis, ultimate Frisbee, and soccer to name a few. LHS prides itself in providing unique activities in and outside of the classroom. Here are a few examples:
SWIM CLUB
All high school students have an opportunity to participate in the Trident Swim Club. Whether you are an expert or a beginning swimmer, this club provides you an opportunity to stay physically fit, improve your swimming skills, meet new people as you compete locally, regionally, and at the State level. The club is also a way to meet many American families because the program is heavily sponsored by local families. If you want something exciting to do outside of school the Trident Team is for you!
HOSA-Health Occupation Students of America
The Ladysmith Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) is not a club to which just a few students in school join. Rather, HOSA is a powerful national student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE with over 107,000 members nationwide. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. The Ladysmith HOSA organization is extremely active in the community and school. It is a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for students interested in pursuing a career in the health care field. Students love to be involved in this organization! Our HOSA chapter is in its fifth year, and has been very successful as demonstrated by many of our students winning State HOSA competitions. These students have qualified and competed at the national level in the National HOSA Competitions. One of our HOSA students became a National winner!
B.E.S.T. PROGRAM- (Broadcasting, Engineering, and Stage Technology)
If you love music and recording and want to pursue a career in the music industry this is a program for you! The BEST program has its own recording studio and digital mixing, computer lab. In the studio, students learn about basic studio electronics and acoustic principles, microphone design and placement techniques, studio set up and signal flow, recording consol theory, signal processing concepts, tape machine principles and operation, and an overview of mixing and editing. In the computer lab students produce professionally prepared commercials for sale to regional and local businesses, as well as editing and creating their own commercials for fictitious products. In addition, students are taught how to analyze stage lighting techniques, including the application of theory, mechanics, equipment, and design of theatrical lighting. Through radio broadcasting, students have an opportunity for the practical application of production and transmission of educational, entertaining, and news-related programming. This program works closely with Mr. Mario Friedel, who has performed nationally in the music industry.
At LHS, we are very receptive to the needs of our students. Organizations, clubs, and activities are added as students and staff indicate a desire to form new ones. It should be noted that F1 and J1 Visa students are able to play competitively in Wisconsin Interscholastic Athlete Association (WIAA) sanctioned sports. In order to fully enjoy your American experience, participation and competition in any of our athletics, activities, and organizations offered at LHS is strongly encouraged.
